Aliza participated in a study through Emory University yesterday. I think they are doing research on how siblings of Fragile X children learn. From what I could see it seemed a lot like an IQ test, or something similar. Anyway she loved doing it, and even more, she loved the $25 gift card they gave her as thanks for participating.
We spent the better part of an hour at Target last night scanning the Barbies, Littlest Pet Shops, Bratz, Polly Pockets, Fur Reals, and Zu Zu pets. Since she had $25, she concentrated on the big stuff on the bottom shelf.
Then she decided what she really wanted was a couple of tiny stuffed dogs called "snuggi-mals.". She spent several minutes picking out the cutest two there. Then she added a Chihuahua Webkinz to the mix. (Having experienced the Beanie Baby craze in the mid-90's, I sort of understand the fascination with Webkinz).
There were still 4 dollars left on her gift card. I suggested she save that and then, added to her allowance, in a couple of weeks she could get another Webkinz. She ignored me.
We ended up with 3 stuffed dogs, a plastic pail for the sandbox, a tiny magnetic whiteboard and three whiteboard markers, a tube of glowsticks, and a box of Jolly Rancher gummies.
It's quantity, not quality, people.
