It was a good day

A couple of little Fragile X knights went trick-or-treating last night.

Getting ready, they were aware of the excitement in the air.  Zack was a little anxious.  I showed them their pumpkin buckets and AJ said "punkin."  Zack dropped his on the floor and scampered back to the computer.

We'd just as soon keep watching Rintoo's Dragon Boat Rowing Race.

Mark and I decided it would be best to get an early start so we could be done before bedtime.  It was time to go.

We've been ready for this for weeks!

And we set out on the boys' first official Halloween outing.  Mark and the kids chased after each other.  I brought up the rear, making sure the boys stuck with us, and wielding the camera.

Nobody was home at this house and they'd left a bowl of candy out on the doorstep.  That didn't stop the boys from knocking on the door just to make sure no one was there.

Zack bounces with joy
They couldn't care less about candy.  Not interested in the slightest in all the Hersheys, Snickers, Butterfingers, Smarties, M&Ms, Reeces Peanut Butter Cups.....it's all utter nonsense to them (which incidentally, considering their extreme dislike of having their teeth brushed, has been a blessing.).  Unfortunately nobody was giving out bags of Doritos -- that would have really sold AJ on the benefits of Halloween forever.

What they loved, what they absolutely delighted in, was the mad dash from house to house with the other kids. AJ shrieked with glee, waving his arms whenever we let go of his hand to let him run after the other kids.  They said "treat" if I asked them to, and Zack even said once, as we left a house, "bye, thanks!"  They didn't care what they were getting out of it, but they adored the experience.

No one was more joyous than Mark and I, though.  It was really a good day!

It sounds like a fantastic day. I just love their glee running up to all the doors.

Glad the first official outing went so well.

That's awesome! We did score one bag of Doritos - tough to get those things home in one piece!

I forgot to mention the reason we didn't take the boys out last Halloween -- we all had H1N1.
